How to prepare a logo for embroidery from Canva or Illustrator

Clean artwork upstream saves time at the machine. These export settings help logos convert to embroidery with fewer surprises.

Before you export

Simplify the design: flatten effects, remove drop shadows, and limit the number of colors to what you actually plan to stitch.

Embroidery works best with solid fills and clear edges. Thin lines below roughly 1.5 mm may not sew reliably on home machines.

Exporting from Canva

Use Download → SVG for vector logos, or PNG with a transparent background for simple marks.

Avoid downloading JPG. StitchConvert does not accept JPG directly—convert to PNG or SVG first if that is all Canva offers.

Exporting from Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape

Save As or Export as SVG with outlines converted to paths (no live fonts unless you outline text first).

For PNG, export at 300 DPI or higher at the size you intend to sew, with a transparent background.

After export

Upload to StitchConvert, pick your hoop size, map thread colors to the detected regions, and review the stitch preview before paying.

See our image guidelines for more do-and-don't tips on artwork that converts cleanly.
